SOCIAL MEDIA

Angela Vithoulkas has embraced the world of social media with both hands firmly on her keyboard. As an instinctive connector, social media is a natural extension to the ways in which she communicates with her market, business peers and the media.

She has recognised the power of this medium in promoting her business and taking it to the next level.

Angela has shared her experiences in this sphere with business owners and managers of corporations who had previously dismissed the idea of incorporating social media into their business, and received a great deal of excellent feedback.

Two instances of Angela’s successful incorporation of social media into her business are the Lunch on Lawson’s campaign, which came about solely through Angela’s social media connections, and the VIVO foursquare Swarm Breakfast, an event designed and promoted by Angela and her team, and which received interest both in social media and the general media.

LUNCH ON LAWSONS PROMOTION

On the 1st June, 2010, Lawsons Breads gave away 2,000 'VIVOlicious' signature sandwiches to the lucky first 2,000 people to register via their website.   Angela, together with her brother Con, designed this signature sandwich by combining chargrilled pesto chicken with roasted pumpkin, Australian brie and baby roquet.  The Lunch on Lawsons promotion was advertised exclusively via VIVO Cafe's social media networks such as Twitter, Facebook, email newsletter and their website. Through this extensive campaign, the VIVOlicious was booked out within two weeks of release on the Lunch on Lawsons website.  For more information click here.

FOURSQUARE SWARM

As a fun test of the power of social media, Angela created an event that was intended to set a world record, get noticed by customers and the media, bring people into VIVO Café at 388 George Street, give something back to a local charity and demonstrate the effectiveness of social media in promoting small business. Angela achieved all of that with the VIVO Foursquare Swarm Breakfast.

To achieve a Foursquare ‘Swarm’  50+ Foursquare users need to check into a venue within a three hour period.  Once the 50th person checks in, all users who have checked in at that venue during that period are awarded the elusive Swarm badge.  The Swarm badge can be difficult to unlock, especially in a commercial situation such as a café, just because 50+ Foursquare users need to be checked in at the same venue in a three hour period.

The Swarm was promoted for two weeks prior to the event and gained lots of interest around Sydney and even worldwide.  All promotions were conducted online via Twitter, Facebook, the VIVO website and the VIVO Cafe email newsletter.

Logging 78 unique visitors and 134 check-ins, the Swarm breakfast, the first of its kind in the world organised by a café, unlocked the coveted Foursquare Swarm Badge before 9am, two hours after the first check-in for the morning.  For more information click here.
